Η Ροκ Όπερα που λατρεύτηκε από κοινό και κριτικούς και άλλαξε για πάντα τους όρους στο θεατρικό μιούζικαλ, έρχεται για πρώτη φορά στη Αθήνα στις 18 Απριλίου στο Θέατρο Badminton για να αποθεωθεί από το ελληνικό κοινό.

Ξεκινώντας τον Οκτώβριο του 1971 στο Broadway, αναδείχτηκε πολύ γρήγορα ως ένα από τα μακροβιότερα μιούζικαλ στην ιστορία του West End και σηματοδότησε μια νέα εποχή, δένοντας το ροκ με την όπερα. Έχει παιχτεί σε όλο τον κόσμο τόσο ως θεατρικό, όσο και ως ταινία, ενώ τραγούδια του έργου, όπως τα "I Don`T Know How To Love Him" και "Superstar", έχουν τραγουδήσει εκατομμύρια πιστοί από το Μεξικό ως την Κένυα και το Ισραήλ.

Πρόκειται για ένα μοναδικό και αξεπέραστο στο είδος του έργο που 36 χρόνια μετά, είναι συγκλονιστικό όσο ποτέ. Οι 7 τελευταίες μέρες του Ιησού, επενδυμένες με την εξαιρετική μουσική του Andrew Lloyd Webber- του δημιουργού των Cats και Phantom of the Opera - και σε στίχους του Tim Rice, του συγγραφέα των The Lion King και Aladdin, έχουν τη δύναμη μέσα από αυτή την ιδιαίτερη παράσταση, να καθηλώνουν και να απογειώνουν τους θεατές.



Κατά καιρούς έχουν παρουσιαστεί διάφορες εκδοχές του Jesus Christ Superstar. Στην Ελλάδα θα υποδεχτούμε μια νέα μεταφορά του έργου υπό τη σκηνοθετική ματιά του Paul Warwick, ο οποίος σε συνεργασία πάντα με τους Andrew Lloyd Webber και Tim Rice, έχει δημιουργήσει μια πρωτότυπη και ξεχωριστή παράσταση που έχει εγκωμιαστεί από τον διεθνή Τύπο και κατορθώνει όχι μόνο να μαγνητίσει τους πιστούς, αλλά και να προσελκύει νέους

Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar first exploded onto the stage in 1971 and it was clear that the musical world would never be the same again.
The show opened on 12 October 1971 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre, New York and was the first musical by Rice and Lloyd Webber to be produced on the professional stage.
The recording of the score of the show with Ian Gillan (Jesus), Murray Head (Judas) and Yvonne Elliman (Mary Magdalene) topped the American album charts three times.

The production opened in London on 9 August 1972 with Paul Nicholas (Jesus), Stephen Tate (Judas) and Dana Gillespie (Mary Magdalene). By the time it closed, after some eight years and 3,358 performances, it had become the longest running musical in West End history.

Jesus Christ Superstar has been reproduced regularly, around the world, in the 20 years since its first appearance. In Australia there have been a series of vastly successful Harry M Miller staged concerts of the show with local megastar John Farnham in the role of Jesus.

A new production re-opened the refurbished Lyceum Theatre in Autumn 1996 directed by Gale Edwards and designed by John Napier. The production was then re-worked and redesigned and toured the UK during 1998 and 1999. The show played Dublin in August 1999 and in January 2000 opened at the Colesseum Theatre in Essen, Germany for a six-month season.
